Since I started the course to now I have personally made many changes, one being the discovery of my loathing towards blogging. This aside, the other changes that I have personally made is my ability to meet deadlines, even if at the last minute, and my appreciation for research and it’s importance. Furthermore, since choosing Fine Art as my pathway i’ve found that in small amounts/scales, I actually quite enjoy making things, such as my fabric bacteria pieces and my protest drawings on cardboard/exploring materiality.
My Bacteria project taught me that with a project where we only have a short amount of time to complete when taken into consideration all the other things that were going on at the time (christmas and applications), I really needed to be proactive about getting on with my work and doing it, regardless of whether the project inspired me or not, as the only way to gain inspiration and new work/knowledge is to keep on keeping on. I learnt this lesson the hard way unfortunately as I found myself with heaps of work and bits to do and not very much/no time left to do them thus I was still doing my Bacteria project when I should’ve been starting the Sustainable Futures project. This caused me a lot of hassle and stress that would’ve been avoided had I just got my shit together earlier on in the project. Furthermore, going into and now coming out of the futures project, I really feel I did learn my lesson and improve on my commitment since the Bacteria project as, arguably we all had much more going on with regards to applications and interviews during this project than we did the last and I still managed to get a good amount of work done during this project, and not just as a last minute scramble to get everything in order, so for that I am proud of myself.
Part 2 of the course for me has definitely been informed by part 1 (exploratory) because I think without having gone through exploratory I’d still be doing really refined and realistic, time consuming drawings, which at some point I do hope to get back to, but for now a more experimental, risk taking change is nice.
Continuing, for my FMP, so far I’ve considered looking into Face Transplants and the morality involved, which when I was discussing with Danny he helped me to come about the wider bracket of ‘masks’ which has given me an even stinger basis to start my FMP from.
